Position Purpose
The purpose of apprenticeship is to prepare apprentices to operate independently and productively in preparation of being a competent qualified artisan. The apprentice welder will be trained to plan and prepare, manufacture, assemble, inspect, commission installations and assemblies, modify and repair components, and apply the knowledge and skills obtained in a variety of contexts.
Position Outputs
Expected Outcome The ability to plan and prepare work site, equipment, tools, consumables and materials for trade related activities and operations, use hand, power and measuring tools, install / assemble / fit / connect etc. trade related equipment and test, inspect, commission and maintain trade related equipment, installations or assemblies etc.
Qualifications and Experience
N2 Subjects: Mathematics (Pure), Engineering Science, Plating &Structural drawing/Engineering drawing (draughting), Metal worker’s theory/Plater’s theory
OR N3-N6 Subjects: Mathematics (Pure), Engineering Science, Plating & Structural drawing/Engineering drawing (draughting), Mechano-technology
OR NCV Level 4: Fundamentals, First Additional Language (English), Mathematics (Pure), Life Orientation, Vocational subjects; Engineering Process, Professional Engineering Practice, Applied Engineering Technology, Welding
OR Technical grade 12: Mechanical technology (welding and metal work), Life Orientation, Mathematics (Pure), Engineering and Graphic Design, Home Language, First Additional language, Physical Science Age between 18 and 35.
