Applications for SANCOLD Scholarship for Post-Graduate Studies in Dam Engineering: 2026


SANCOLD scholarships assist Post-Graduate students to undertake studies and research in the various

engineering fields related to Dams, taking advantage of the best possible training opportunities in South

Africa. These scholarships will allow the holder’s mobility, as well as the freedom to select supervisors in

their chosen fields. The purpose of these scholarships is to support persons who are committed to

contributing significantly to research, development, and professional practice in the field of Dam

Engineering in their future careers. SANCOLD encourages studies in any engineering field that relates to

dams.


Eligibility:

Applications for a scholarship for Master’s or Doctoral studies may be submitted by the following persons:

• Students or graduates who have successfully completed their Undergraduate four-year Engineering degree or BSc (Hons) degree and who are accepted for registration, or who already registered, for a post graduate degree at Masters or Doctoral level.

• Students who have either successfully completed or are enrolled for their BSc Honours but who have not yet enrolled for Master's studies;

• Students or graduates who have, in their most recent two years of study, obtained an aggregate of at least 60% for their subjects;

• Application should be made prior to commencement of their studies;

• Applicants should be South African citizens studying at a local institution;

• Applicants should be preferably be fulltime students.


Value of Scholarship for Post-graduate Studies award and period of support:

• Up to R100 000 p.a. for 2 years, value dependent on study degree level, assessment of research proposal and subject to progress review after the first year. For this purpose, the Applicant should provide a progress report by 13th November of the first study year.


Supplementation:

• SANCOLD encourages institutions to supplement the scholarship-holders' income by assigning appropriate research and teaching tasks to them that will contribute to the progress of obtaining their respective degrees;

• Awardees will be allowed to undertake a maximum of twelve hours of teaching, tutorials, assistance or demonstration duties per week on average during the year of study;

• Scholarship-holders may not be employed on a part-time basis if their working hours exceed nine hours, during office hours, per week on average during the year of study;

• Scholarship-holders may not hold full-time salaried employment during the tenure of the scholarship; and

• SANCOLD scholarships may be held concurrently with other bursaries or scholarships.


Applications:

Applicants should compile a project proposal of their intended study, provide a schedule of their proposed study program indicating intermediate goals and provide details about their study leader and research at the relevant institution. This project proposal should be a maximum of 2 pages (Arial, 10pt font, 1.5 spaced).
