Purpose of Job/ Role Intent:

A Maintenance Operator – Analysers supports Analyser maintenance team by providing effective equipment maintenance assistance and reliability while adhering to procedure/ codes, to increase stability and maintain sustainability of the analyser equipment.

Functional Outputs:

Apply and maintain safety in a working environment

Reporting incident and accident

Safe and correct use of hand tools and other workshop equipment

Safe handling of gas cylinders

Basic housekeeping awareness

Understanding of sampling system (elements and conditioning)

Safe unblocking of sample lines-only water (Ph conductivity)

Commissioning and decommissioning of service gas cylinders

Identifying of different regulators for different cylinders

Management of cylinder store stock level

Receive all gas deliveries

Return empty cylinders to supplier

Assist with installation and removal of cylinders

Assist with tubing on sample systems and analysers

Transport of analyser reagents to plant

Knowledge of MSDS for different reagent and calibration liquids

Identifies correct liquid for different analysers

Change carrier gas cylinders

Demonstrate an understanding of instrumentation calibration, terminology and standards

Select, inspect, use and maintain measurement, test and calibration equipment

Demonstrate understanding of elementary chemical principles and their applications in process industries

Apply sample theory and practice


In addition to a pre-employment medical examination, some positions may require a physical fitness assessment as part of the normal selection criteria.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

Matric/Grade 12(Maths & Science) or N3 with English, Mathematics and Physical Science (Must)

NQF 2 Instrumentation Occupational Qualification (Must)

Must have Code 8 Driver’s License

Must be able to read, write and speak English

Basic knowledge of operation of shelter system

Knowledge of fundamentals of instrumentation

Understand fundamentals of Electricity

Understand basic electronic theory and components


Participates in root cause analyses, and provides feedback to RCA teams

Carries out work according to planning

Participates in daily morning meetings to discuss work assignments

Provides adequate feedback to supervisor on work progress

Applies and adheres to safety standards and requirements to support safety

Maintains good housekeeping and adheres to waste disposal procedures

Identifies faults by using applicable methods to ensure equipment availability

Support the goals and vision of the business by meeting deadlines

Participates in risk assessments according to legislation and company requirements to improve safety


Attends training courses and seminars as per training matrix to improve competency and skills

Identifies personal training and development needs, and incorporates into PDP with group leader’s approval

Support the goals and vision of the business by meeting deadlines

Practical application of training


Performs plant inspections, and repairs as required to ensure equipment reliability

Provides adequate feedback to customers on work progress

Conducts My IMS inspections to maintain and improve plant sustainability


Ensures the correct history feedback is captured to improve renewals/ upgrades and critical spares are replaced

Attends and interacts in “toolbox talks” to improve plant safety

Attends and interacts in PDAs and RCAs to improve plant safety and stability

Spot continuous improvement opportunities in own work area
