Technician : Electrical Junior (Recovery) ( Grade 13 )



Sappi Saiccor Mill requires a Junior Electrical Technician to provide technical support to the Electrical and related departments, specifically relating to plant optimization, plant automation, electrical reticulation and fault diagnosis in order to maximize the availability of the plant


This role reports in to the Area Engineer


The main responsibilities of this job are :

Maintain all PLC,VFD, SCADA Installations and Profibus Networks;

Perform system backups;

Implement and commission electrical and PLC system related projects;

Ensure all modifications/projects conform fully to Mill Change Management Procedures, Mill Standard Specifications, Mill Safety Standards and the OHS Act;

Optimise plant performance and control characteristics to maintain high plant availability;

Review equipment in line with technological advancement within the industry on an on-going basis;

Explore quality products at reduced costs in the event of replacement;

Complete fault-finding on malfunctions of field devices and system components with the aid of electrical drawings,test equipment, plc information and diagnostic tools;

Knowledge of specialist areas such PLC’s, VFD’s, HV and LV reticulation and Protection Equipment, Power Generator and Auxiliary Equipment;

Complete similar tasks when assigned by senior technicians or area engineers;

Assist in carrying out specialized testing on electrical and electronic equipment;

Provide technical support in as far as troubleshooting is concerned;

Assist with on-going training of personnel to perform specific tasks on new equipment, completed projects and maintenance of equipment;

Explain operational control to Engineers and Operators;

Assist with shut planning, preparation and execution;

Assist with the development of maintenance schedules for plant equipment in consultation with Engineer and Foreman;

Sourcing and cataloguing of maintenance spares;

Approve expenditure within signing authority;

Complete projects from concept to commissioning and close out making use of necessary resources and project management principles.

The ideal candidate should have:

NQF level 6 qualification in Electrical Engineering or related qualification;

1 year relevant experience within a heavy industry environment.
