Dry End Operator: Tissue ( P13 )

Sappi Stanger Mill requires a Dry End Operator (Tissue) to run the dryer section according to best operating practices and ISO standards so that maximum production rate is maintained on a continuous basis whilst working safely to optimise quality which is in adherence to the environmental policies of the mill.

This role reports into the: Production Foreman

The main responsibilities of this job are:

Plant Operations

Monitors the control equipment and performs walkabouts, to ensure that the process is running according to best operating practices and ISO 9001

Maintains a good standard of safety and housekeeping in the plant by ensuring that the health & safety policies & regulations are being followed.

Performs walkabout during every shift.

Reports any process condition & deviations from the standards

Initiates 5 why analysis when standards are not met

Carries out dryer section start-ups, shut downs, grade changes and tail threading

Functions as a team leader of the dry end crew

Coaches the other team members

Communicates with the internal suppliers to ensure availability of materials and services i.e., ropes, doctor blades

Communicates with the internal customers to ensure good quality of the product

Operates the crane and forklift when necessary

Participates in shut duties (clothing change, cleaning) as required by the Foreman

Carries out other duties requested by the Foreman

Acts as a Machine man when required

Participates in and/or leads small group activities

Responsible for all documentation; reports and logs for Dry End; quality; spool availability and logging of downtime on the OEE system

Prepares samples for lab on every jumbo with the assistance of the Dry End Assistant

Checks for physical defects on paper

Loads and unloads dry end and winder with jumbos and spools by using the dry end crane, as and when required

Assists with broke removal from spools, webs and general machine broke to pulper.

Adhere to environmental policy and procedures including

Reduces wastes

Prevents spills

Meets environmental targets that apply to his sphere of influence

Complies with hazardous chemical handling procedure

Complies with environmental legal requirements

Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ)

Understand & comply with all SHEQ requirements of the job.

Carries out BBS Observations

Identify and take corrective action in terms of SHEQ conditions and hazards.

Maintains a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all times

The ideal candidate should have:

Matric, N2 Pulp and Paper or equivalent

Working towards a N3 in Pulp and Paper would be preferred

Min 4 years working experience in a paper and pulp manufacturing industry

3 months position specific experience preferred

Crane license
