The above mentioned positions is available in the Infrastructure and Facility Management Department. The purpose of the job is to ensure an effective and efficient medical response to all medical emergencies at Robben Island Museum.

Key Responsibilities:

 Provide assistance to the Intermediate Life Support Paramedic and Nurse;

 Uphold high ethical and professional standards, follow instructions and adheres to all policies and procedures;

 Works accurately and thoroughly by attending to detail;

 Respond constructively to pressure and perseveres through challenges;

 Collaborates with and supports colleagues in order to achieve shared goals;

 Ensure readiness for all emergency calls;

 Administers patient care in line with the Health Profession Council of South Africa (HPCSA) scope of practice;

 Driving emergency vehicle, responding to emergency calls, assessing patients, providing emergency treatment and making diagnoses, monitoring and administering medication, intravenous infusions, dressing wounds/injuries, using specialist equipment;

 Communicating effectively with patients and their relatives/friends;

 Educate and train fellow employees, residents, contractors and others to use first aid techniques correctly;

 Be able to operate within a remote area and within a team;

 Assist with health and safety responsibilities;


 Registration with the HPCSA as an BLS and proof of current registration (i.e. annual licensing receipt of 2020/2021);

 A valid code 8 / 10 or higher code with PDP

 Ability and willingness to work shifts which includes public holidays, weekends, overtime should the need arises and standby;

 Ability to operate in a remote area and in multidisciplinary teams;

 Must be able to sleepover on the Island when on duty
