Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to join the Graduate programme in the Analytical Services Department within the Scientific Services Division at Vereeniging.


Minimum Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Four years qualifications (NQF 8) in Medical Biosciences, Environmental Health, Aquatic Health or Microbiology with Biochemistry, Microbiology, Zoology and/or molecular biology as a major.

Experience in research projects and techniques that can be applied in the field of Microbiology, Toxicity or Molecular Biology testing.


Primary Duties

The overall responsibility of the successful candidate:

Assisting with the development of specialised investigations related to the implementation of new methods, or upgrading of methods in the fields of aquatic toxicology and human health.

Perform analysis and trouble shouting related to methods and instruments applied in the field of aquatic toxicology.

Documentation and checking of results on the identified databases.

Performance and documentation of all quality control checks of identified analytical test according to the ISO 17025 accreditation system.

Undertaking maintenance of equipment/instrumentation and keeping of appropriate documentation.

Adherence to SHE practices and good housekeeping principles in the area of work


Knowledge

Knowledge and understanding of aquatic toxicology

Knowledge of good laboratory practice (GLP)

Basic statistical knowledge


Skills

Computer literacy in Word Processing and spread sheet applications.

Ability to prioritise, organise and plan.

Skilled in the application of bio-analytical methodologies and instrument techniques

Effective written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.


Attitude

Quality and output driven person who can handle pressure and routine work.

Ability to interact with staff and customers

Team worker but must also be able to work independently

Conscientious and pays attention to detail
