Introduction
SPAR Eastern Cape, a division of The SPAR Group Ltd. is recruiting for a Quality Controller who will report to the Perishable Manager.
Job description
To ensure all stock items received from Suppliers are in accordance with SPAR specifications and comply with all food safety standards/legislation.
Key Performance Areas:
Provide leadership to the Quality team at SPAR EC DC
Monitor Quality and Food Safety compliance from Suppliers.
Provide Management reports on quality and food safety issues
Build good working relationships with Suppliers and enforce quality and Food Safety compliance from through the entire supply chain.
Schedule and attend supplier and retailer visits.
Schedule training with Suppliers to align them on SPAR requirements
Keep a record of all stock quality checks performed and complete daily report with recommendations for improvement.
Monitor quality variations amongst Suppliers, record statistics and notify Management.
Coordinate and participate in departmental team meetings.
Communicate poor product quality to all stakeholders, prepare and schedule daily reporting with EC Quality Team
Complete GRS, claims for incorrect stock, quality problems and or damaged stock received.
Develop trend analysis reports on Supplier behaviour.
Implement and support innovations in the quality space e.g., QC APP, Cold Chain Management etc.
Oversee Total Quality across and enforce legal and process compliance.
Develop and maintain BOPs on Quality issues within the operation.
Ensure high standard of housekeeping is maintained daily.
Assume overall responsibility and accountability for stock quality issues.
Ensure effective handling of customer complaints and follow up with Suppliers.
Participate in and manage traceability of mock recalls and ensure prompt response on National recall.
Update Suppliers on any Legislation changes and ensure compliance.
Conduct grievance and disciplinary procedures when required.
Manage staff performance through the ROI process and process timecards on the system.
Assist in other areas of the department when required.
Minimum requirements
Matric.
Relevant qualification in Food Technology /Biotechnology Consumer Science in Food and Nutrition / Agricultural Quality Control qualification essential.
2-3 Years fresh foods experience (Produce/Bakery/Meat/Home Meal Replacement).
Supervisory and customer care experience.
Computer literacy and SAP knowledge essential.
Team player.
Own car and drivers licence essential.
Good communications skills (written and verbal).
Enthusiastic, assertive and attention to details.
Understanding of FSMS (Food Safety Management Systems).
Auditing (Internal/external).
Must be able to work overtime, shifts, public holidays, and weekends.
Sound leadership and administrative skills.
Deadline orientated.
