Part-time Lecturers (2025):

The Department of Architecture and Industrial Design requires the services of part-time lecturers to
teach the listed architecture subjects in the undergraduate degree, in the Faculty of Engineering and
the Built Environment at the Pretoria Campus. All part-time lecturers are remunerated using the official
TUT hourly tariffs. All part-time lecturing appointments are limited to a maximum of 19 hours per week:
BArch Prof (BPAR20) / BArch Prof Extended (BPARF2)
1. FIRST YEAR
1.1 CONSTRUCTION I (CST105P/CST005P)
One (1) post available
Contact hours = 1 day/week x 4 contact hours/day x 15 weeks
Total tuition time = 60 hours
2. THIRD YEAR
2.1 ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN III (ACD307P)
One (1) post available
Contact hours = 2 days/week x 4 contact hours/day x 15 weeks
Total tuition time = 120 hours
2.2 CONSTRUCTION III (CST307P)
One (1) post available
Contact hours = 1 day/week x 5 contact hours/day x 15 weeks
Total tuition time = 75 hours
3. FOURTH YEAR (Technology)
3.1 ADVANCED BUILDING PHYSICS AND SYSTEMS DESIGN IV (ABP418P)

Total tuition time = 75 hours
3.2 ADVANCED CONSTRUCTION IV (ACC418P)

3.3 STUDIO WORK IV (STW408P)

Contact hours = 2 days/week x 4 contact hours/day x 15 weeks
Total tuition time = 120 hours
Minimum Requirements
• Academic qualifications: Master’s degree in Architecture, or HEQSF equivalent (5-year BArch degree).
• Registration with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) will be advantageous
• Registration with a voluntary Architectural body such as the PIA / SAIA will be advantageous.
Critical performance arrears:
• Lecturing of the above-named subjects.
• Standard academic duties and responsibilities.
• Evaluate students on a continuous basis as well as administer tests and assignments according to study guides.
• Community service and Industry Liaison
• Research, innovation or community involvement.
• Setting, preparing and conducting lectures for the subjects.
• Marking assignments and tests and conducting practicals.
• Participating in departmental meetings and subject meetings.
• General administration such as capturing test and assignment marks on ITS System, uploading documents on myTUTor and compiling of subject file(s).
• Student consultation.
Experience
• 3 years teaching experience in Architecture or in related CPD courses and/or 3 years industry experience.
• Experience of working in a high-quality academic research environment.
• An ability to teach, mentor and guide students.
• Experience of critical formative assessment of design and theory, as well as general experience offering construction at under-graduate levels will be advantageous.
• Presentation of practical classes and critique of designs on group and individual basis.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills which give you the ability to engage with students, colleagues, business and other agencies on a wide variety of matters.
• Working as a member of a coordinated team.
