Description
The Logistics Officer – Receiving and/or Dispatch is responsible for the effective coordination and execution of daily logistics operations, particularly in the receiving and dispatching areas. The incumbent ensures smooth product flow, accurate stock handling, compliance with safety and quality standards, and timely support to production, in alignment with company systems and schedules.
Key Performance Areas
Production/Packing
Oversee the receiving and offloading of incoming products and materials.
Ensure all products are clean, oil-free, and not dented before acceptance.
Identify received products and verify delivery notes for compliance with actual product and quantities delivered.
Assign batch numbers to products and ensure accurate recordkeeping.
Capture and consign delivered products into relevant company systems accurately and promptly.
Plan storage of incoming products prior to scheduling them for production use.
Complete stock sheet forms and reports as required for inventory tracking and control.
Ensure the correct product and quantities are packed in accordance with the schedule to avoid production delays.
Check that quality standards are met during the packing process, prior to fluorination.
Coordinate with the Production Coordinator to ensure smooth handover of materials for processing.
Liaise with clients during the receiving and dispatching of products to ensure proper documentation, clarity, and efficient turnaround times.
Perform ad hoc duties as assigned that may fall outside the normal scope of logistics operations.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance logistics performance and service delivery.
People Management
Manage personnel within the receiving/dispatch area to ensure optimal performance and adherence to task deadlines.
Ensure that staff are adequately trained in the use of all relevant plant systems and procedures related to receiving, storage, and dispatch.
Compliance with SHEQ requirements
Adhere strictly to occupational safety regulations and company policies in all logistics operations.
Ensure that PPE is worn correctly and is in good condition at all times.
Report sub-standard equipment and safety issues immediately to the relevant authority.
Promote a culture of safety and quality throughout the logistics function.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act
Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality standards and ISO 14001 Environmental standard
Computer literacy
JOB COMPETENCIES (JOB SPECIFIC AND BEHAVIORAL)
Knowledge of warehouse, receiving, and dispatch operations.
Ability to use inventory and logistics systems (manual and electronic).
Attention to detail when verifying deliveries and assigning batch numbers.
Understanding of stock rotation, batch control, and quality checking.
Communication – Effectively liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Leadership – Ability to manage and guide logistics staff in a structured and motivating manner
Problem Solving – Quickly resolve logistical and operational challenges.
Teamwork – Work collaboratively across departments to meet production goals.
Accountability – Takes ownership of assigned duties and follows through on responsibilities.
Organizational Skills – Effectively plan and coordinate multiple tasks and priorities.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
· National Certificate/ Grade 12 / Standard 10/ Trade certificate or equivalent to (NQF 4) with mathematics subject;
· A valid Forklift license will be an added advantage;
· A valid Overhead Crane license will be an added advantage.
Minimum Experience:
· A minimum of 2 years of experience in logistics, warehousing, or a dispatch/receiving environment;
· Experience working in a manufacturing or chemical plant environment will be advantageous;
· Familiarity with inventory control systems and batch management processes; Basic supervisory or team-leading experience is will be advantageous.
