Job Description


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Take daily samples of catchments, raw, and point of use.

  • Take weekly water samples on the distribution points for analysis.

  • Carry out routine physical, chemical and microbiological analysis of water samples and upload results on the IRIS.

  • Prepare quality control solutions for testing reagents and plot quality control charts.

  • Take sample and verify sample checklist before transportation to Scientific Services.

  • Offload and handover samples to Lab personnel and sign of checklist.

  • Conduct pre-trip inspections and complete trip authorization for approval.

  • Inform the Supervisor about analysis results which do not comply with SANS 241 for drinking water.

  • Clean and maintain laboratory and chemical storage facilities, including bench, glassware and equipment.

  • Sterilize microbiological samples bottles.

  • Ensure calibration of equipment and daily verification of relevant instrumentation and report faults.

  • Take part in proficiency testing schemes (benchmarking).

  • Ensure the availability of laboratory consumables on site through procurement process.

  • Monitor filters and sedimentation tanks for quality control and reporting purposes.

  • Adhere to integrated environmental management policy for regional activities.

  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and procedures.

  • Attend to all assignments as directed from time to time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Technical Grade 12/ NQF Level 3 in water and waste purification process (with Maths and Science).

  • Two years’ relevant experience in water treatment.

  • Familiar with Good Laboratory Practice (Laboratory Safety).

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Computer Literacy.
