The Human and Social Capabilities (HSC) research programme within the HSRC employs a multi-disciplinary group of social scientists and public health specialists who conduct numerous empirical and policy-related studies each year, many of which are donor-funded. The HSC research programme specialises in research on the social determinants of HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections and tuberculosis. The research strives to address these health problems at their source, namely, at both the social and population levels. It also includes social aspects of delivery models for biomedical interventions in order to optimise delivery of interventions. HSC is based in Pretoria, Cape Town, and Durban with smaller sites in Port Elizabeth, and Pietermaritzburg (Sweetwaters).
The HSC research programme will be implementing a number of projects that require the services of translators to ensure that project materials reach all the languages spoken in South Africa. HSC requires Translators & back translators (18 required) to do the translations from English to Sepedi (also known as Sesotho sa Leboa), Sesotho, Setswana, siSwati, Tshivenda, Xitsonga, Afrikaans, isiNdebele, isiXhosa and isiZulu to be located in Durban, Cape Town, PE and Pretoria.

The successful incumbents will be expected to translate the survey and consent documents from its original English version into all official languages and back translate the translated version to check for accuracy. The duration of this position is anticipated for a maximum of 4 months. They will work under the supervision of the Project Director and respective Project Coordinators
Job Functions Translation
•Make written translation and submit translation in word processed documents;
•Proofread and edit the document;
•Share draft translation with supervisor;
•Incorporate suggested changes to the translation;
•Ensure high quality and accuracy of the entire document before submitting it to the supervisor in charge of the project;
•Ensure accuracy of the terms and terminology used in the documents;
•Ensure that the translation is written with correct grammar and spelling;
•At least a Grade 12 (Matric) education;
•At least 5 years of professional experience in working in the relevant area;
•Demonstrated good understanding of technical terms and terminology used in areas of work;
•Proven skills in translation and interpretation from and into English and vice versa;
•Demonstrate effective organizational skills and ability to handle work in an efficient and timely manner;
•Ability to work independently;
•Knowledge in HIV field.
•Knowledge in COVID-19 field
•Attention to detail and accuracy, able to meet firm deadlines.
