Job Description

This role is responsible for assisting the Operations team with the settlement of all Equity, Derivative and Bond Trades in terms of the JSE Rules, and to support the Operations Team with other duties. This is your opportunity to join a leading and highly rated Stockbroking team in a critical role which offers excellent exposure and challenges in the Settlements and Operations Management Arena. This role will equip candidates with:

  • A solid understanding of financial instruments, including Fixed Income and Derivative Instruments.

  • The knowledge and experience on local and international settlements.

  • The ability to work on various IT systems (advanced Excel, Accounting & Exchange Systems, including Nutron, Mecras BDA and Swordfish).


Duties and Responsibilities

Settlements

  • Assist with the settlement obligations of all Equity, Derivative and Bond Trades in terms of the relevant exchange Rules.

  • Assist with the constant monitoring and communication of trade statuses to clients, banks and the relevant exchanges where required.

  • Assist with the reconciliation of Net Settlements schedules to Bank Statements, BDA and the Accounting system.

  • Assist with the processing and settlement of local and international trades for the Equity and Equity Derivatives Market when required.

  • Assist the Trade Support Function with allocation of Equity Trades.

  • Assist with the monitoring of trade exclusions as required to ensure they are correctly dealt with.


Operations

  • Assist with the reconciliation and consolidation of Client Brokerage Figures.

  • Data Capture and Enquiries on the JSE’s Broker Dealer Accounting System (BDA).

  • Taking note of relevant Exchange Communications and participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) Testing as required.

  • Assist with the compilation of incident reports analyzing the root cause of any possible breaches.

  • Assist with the production of various month end reports and schedules.

  • Be cognizant of the relevant Compliance requirements.

  • Support the Compliance Officer to ensure Compliance with applicable legislation including Exchange Rules and Directives, taxation, FICA, etc.

  • Ad-Hoc requests as and when required.


Ideal Experience

  • This is a graduate position.


Ideal Qualifications

  • BCom, B.Compt, B.Acc, BSC or equivalent Advanced Excel skills


JSE and RPE Exams (Willing to write):

  • Introduction to Financial Markets (RPE)

  • Regulations and Ethics of the South African Financial Markets (RPE)

  • Equity Market (RPE)

  • Bond Market (RPE)

  • Derivatives Market (RPE)

  • Bond Settlement Officer Exams (JSE EXAM)

  • Equities Settlement Officer Exams (JSE EXAM)


Most Important Attribute

  • Attention to detail and accuracy

  • Registered Persons/Financial market qualifications. (Or willing to complete such exams as required by the business)


Systems Knowledge

  • Microsoft Office Suite.
