General Reinsurance Africa Ltd (a subsidiary of General Reinsurance AG) currently offers an excellent opportunity for an Experienced Life Underwriter in our Cape Town office.

Your Role

The position of Life Underwriter includes a broad range of tasks, including:

  • Providing technical underwriting advice and support to Gen Re clients

  • Evaluating life insurance products in relation to best risk management practices

  • Assimilation of a variety of information and the ability to distil, synopsise, conclude and communicate a well thought through decision, bearing in mind the variety of company product rules and Gen Re governance.

  • Delivering of presentations and training

  • Marketing activities, including giving presentations at conferences and writing articles

  • Participating in international projects

Your Profile

  • South African product knowledge – Life, disability and health insurance

  • Medical qualifications would be advantageous

  • Significant underwriting experience

  • Previous education and training experience within the life insurance industry

  • Ability to provide underwriting assessments on a range of life insurance products

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Capacity to work effectively in a team environment

  • High degree of energy and creativity

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Solid software skills

  • Fluent English
