Role Description Cognia Law offers an alternative to candidates who want to experience a different side of law. We are currently recruiting admitted attorneys with experience in commercial drafting and negotiating and GDPR/POPIA compliance. The successful candidates will be part of a growing and dynamic team based in Cape Town. Candidate Requirements

  • Law degree from a top South African or UK/ EU based tertiary institution.

  • Experience with drafting and negotiating commercial agreements at a law firm or in-house legal department.

  • Solid understanding of data protection compliance processes.

  • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) experience in relation to standard contractual clauses.

  • Awareness of, and experience with, related regulatory and legal issues.

  • Languages: English – spoken and written (required)

Required skills include:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate closely with stakeholders from different disciplines and with a remote team.

  • Able to work both independently and as an integral part of a team.

  • Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Commercial, proactive and business-like mind-set

  • A good grasp of Microsoft Office applications

  • Be comfortable with technological applications.

  • Knowledge of legal review platforms will be beneficial.

  • Good time management skills and the ability to operate well in high-pressure environments.

  • Strong team player.

  • Risk sensitivity and the ability to know when to escalate an issue.
