A chef is mainly responsible for the preparation of meals in the respective hospital for patients and staff. The job of a chef will entail preparing, seasoning, and decorating meals and dishes in ways that suit the requirements or orders that are placed by customers. The chef also monitors and/or supervises the preparation and administration of meals from the kitchen by other staff members. He/she should specializes in the preparation of specific meals like salads, desserts, and pastries. The chef will be responsible for creating the menu; he/she will also makes adjustments to the menu based on the availability of food or the current season.
Requirements
Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualifications
Certificate / Diploma Chefs Qualifications
Work Experience
Atleast two years in a similar position (Preferably in a hospital setting)
Knowledge
Strong culinary and costing skills
Computer literacy and knowledge of hospital catering
Understanding ingredients and seasonings
Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
Therapeutic Diets
Able to speak, read and understand English
Plating design
Able to work with wide range of kitchen equipment
Should be conscientious, reliable, honest, and punctual always. Should also use own initiative and discretion, have high energy levels and tolerance for stress
All functions and tasks should be performed accurately
